Larden V. Hoffman, 88, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at 11:05 p.m. at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN, where he had been a resident since May 2008.
Mr. Hoffman, a former resident of Wabash, graduated from Franklin High School in Pennsylvania and Purdue University and served in the United States Army during World War II, earning two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He was plant manager at Container Corporation, Wabash, for 20 years and was co-founder of Custom Cartons, which he helped operate from 1966 until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wabash, former president and member of the board of directors of Crossroads Bank and past president of the Wabash Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding member of the Honeywell Public Golf Course.
He was born June 13, 1922, in Franklin, PA, to Leon F. and Murrel Jewell Hoffman. He married Jean K. Hoffman on Oct. 24, 1943, in Wabash. His wife preceded him in death on July 22, 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurie (Ray) Osborne, of Mishawaka, and Mary K. (Robin) Lemberger, of Hot Springs Village, AR; a son, Gregory A. (Nancy) Hoffman, of Wabash; a brother, Larry (Suzanne) Hoffman, of Hernando, FL; three grandchildren, Andrea (Shawn) Burke, of Atlantic Beach, FL; Jennifer (Mark) Pascarella, of Indianapolis; and Cari (Chris) Carmichael, of Fort Wayne; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling is Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at 10 a.m., with Rev. John Pattison officiating. Burial will be at Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are gifts to Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Berne or the animal shelter of Wabash County.
