Charlene F. Brown

Charlene F. Brown, 87, of Peru, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at 11:40 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor in Peru.

Mrs. Brown retired in 1987 after working for several area dry cleaners in Peru. She had also worked as a cashier at Gallahans Truck Stop. At the age of 67, she was the youngest member of the Flapperetts, a group of Senior ladies who sang and danced to musical tunes of yesteryear. They performed for many clubs and organizations around the state.

She was born May 5, 1921, in Peru to Roy and Clara Scott Manus. She was married to Harold Adams and Paul Brown, who both preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Loueda (Richard) Griffith, of Kokomo and Ventura, CA; Cindy (Mike) Peconga, of Peru,;and Kristi (Bill) Waymire, of Kokomo and Port Charlotte, FL; a son, Kerry (Glenda) Brown, of Huntington; eight grandchildren, Cathy (Mike) Parkman, Kimbal Marks, Kristopher (Rebekah) Marks, Amanda Brown, Scott (Michelle) Waymire, Andrea (Mike) Maus, Mike Armstrong and Kalee (Aaron) Dunkle; and eight great-grandchildren.

A service was held Monday, April 27, 2009, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with Elder Matthew Whitcomb officiating. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru.
