Joe A. Harvey

Joe A. Harvey, 50, of Zionsville, and a native of Huntington County, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011.

Mr. Harvey was employed by Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, Indianapolis, serving as head athletic trainer since 1990 and as an academic counselor since 1993. At the time of his death, he also served as director of academic guidance. He was a member of the Salamonie Church of the Brethren, Huntington County.

A 1978 graduate of Huntington North High School, he also graduated from Manchester College and held a graduate degree in athletic training from Indiana University and a graduate degree in school counseling from Butler University.

Prior to joining Brebeuf, he had worked as assistant athletic trainer for the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana Pacers and had been employed by Ortho Indy. He was a member of the Indiana Athletic Trainers' Association, serving as president from 2002 to 2004; held certification with the National Athletic Trainers' Association; was a member of the Indiana and American Counseling Associations; and was a member and past president of the Manchester College Alumni Board.

He was born March 3, 1960, in Huntington County to William and Marjorie Heaston Harvey. His father survives in North Manchester.

Additional survivors include a brother, Ronald (Joyce) Harvey, of Lancaster, OH; and a sister, Pat (Rick) Hanson, of Indianapolis.

Calling is Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, with a prayer service following at 7. Burial will be at a later date at Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County.

Preferred memorials are gifts to Manchester College or Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School.
