
The Huntington University men's tennis team narrowly lost its home opener to Cornerstone University on Friday, Aug. 31, 4-5.
Vlad Khudziy took care of Elijah Yi at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Jose Hungria beat Austin Hunt, 6-1, 6-2. Diego Inurriteguy, at No. 3 singles, took down Chris Reed, 7-6, 6-1.
However, the Foresters, 0-2, were not as successful in the rest of their singles matches, with Zakk Sparks losing to John Andrew at fourth singles, 3-6, 1-6, Jacob Cross falling to Andrew Son at fifth singles, 0-6, 0-6, and Matthew Wilcox pressured by Alex Tarnow at sixth singles, 1-6, 3-6.
Khudziy and Hungria were the bright spot for Huntington in doubles play, defeating Yi and Hunt at first doubles, 8-4.
Inurriteguy and Sparks lost their No. 2 doubles match to Reed and Andrew, 7-9, and Cross and Wilcox had the same result at No. 3 doubles against Son and Chris Selva, 0-8.
