Phyllis Dowty, WBCL radio chef, will be the featured speaker for the Fall Women's Breakfast sponsored by the Huntington University Women's Auxiliary on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m.
Dowty is the author of the "Rise and Shine" cookbook, which contains the recipes that she has used as chef on WBCL.
Once a month since 2003, she has cooked for the WBCL morning DJs. The food she has prepared has included Potato Candy, Cheesecake Cream Fruit Dip, Peach Harvest Beef and Turkey Club Pizza.
Her program at the breakfast, "In the Kitchen with Phyllis," will focus on some basic nutritional information, with tips on reading nutrition labels and suggestions for substitutions to improve the nutritional quality of recipes.
In addition, she will spotlight some tips for making kitchen jobs more efficient and more enjoyable and offer guests a chance to sample her chocolate pumpkin muffins.
The buffet breakfast, to be held on the upper level of Huntington University's Habecker Dining Commons, will also include music by Jacob Smith, a tenor majoring in music at Huntington University.
Chris Dowden, wife of Huntington University President Blair Dowden, will introduce new women faculty and staff members and their spouses.
The public is invited to attend.
Reservations should be made by Wednesday, Sept. 19, with Pat Jones at Richlyn Library, 359-4061; Barbara Fetters at 672-8333 or bfetters@ juno.com; or Ruth Weber at 356-0255. The fee is paid at the door.
