The town of Markle adopted its 2013 budget on Sept. 19. The budget is set at $1,704,625 and was adopted by a 3-0 vote of town council.
Markle must adopt an transition plan to comply with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) act by Dec. 31 to stay in compliance with the Indiana Department of Transportation and receive federal funds. Jay Stankiewicz of DLZ will work with ADA coordinator Mike Grant to develop a plan by the deadline.
The town also reviewed a renewal contract for leading antenna space on the northern water tower from OnlyInternet, a broadband and wireless provider. The council will vote on the contract at the October meeting.
Markle has terminated services with Waste Management for the town's solid waste collection services, effective at the end of the contract on Dec. 31, 2012. The council will review proposals at the October meeting and select a new provider at the November meeting.
The first reading of an ordinance that will allow a 2 percent pay increase for town employees was reviewed.
Novae's proposal for an advertisement on the town's new water tower is classified as outdoor advertising, according to INDOT, and the Board of Zoning Appeals must provide a variance to the company in order for their name to be placed on the tower.
