Dale A. Engle, 91, of Columbia City, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at 7:18 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Engle was a 1941 graduate of Wolf Lake High School. He was employed by Dana Weatherhead for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, in rural Columbia City, and the Whitley County Coon Hunter's Club. He was a former member of a local square dance club.
He was born May 2, 1921, in Washington Township, Noble County, to Haskel A. and Esther R. Piper Engle. His first marriage was on Sept. 24, 1950, to Norma Fowler-Schroeder. He married Elizabeth J. Coon on March 10, 1984, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Anita (David) Herr, of Syracuse, and Marlene (Glen) Fox, of Fort Wayne; three sons, Dennis (Heather) Engle, of Savannah, GA; Jay (Becky) Engle, of Mooresville; and Albert Engle, of Lebanon; a stepdaughter, Mary Jane (Ted) Crum, of Whitsett, NC; two sisters, Barbara Herendeen, of Churubusco, and Dora (Niles) Stahl, of Huntington; a brother, Roger (Sandy) Engle, of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Calling is Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at10 a.m., with Rev. Michael Dillon officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Pennville Twin Hills I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pennville.
