Fred "Freddie" Wenger Jr., 89, of Bluffton, IN, and having family members in Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Wenger attended Bluffton High School and served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1946. He worked as a carpenter at Cline Lumber company for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He attended St. John's United Church of Christ, in Vera Cruz.
He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Adams County to Frederick and Sarah Edna Micheal Wenger. He married Edna L. Walter on May 24, 1949, in Vera Cruz. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Susan (Dennis Shipley) Wenger, of Fort Wayne; Elaine (Dale) Wenger-Roesener, of Las Vegas, NV; and Judith (Tim) Schaffter, of Roanoke; two sons, Mark (Sheila) Wenger, of Bluffton, and Fred (Patricia) Wenger III, of Annandale, VA; two brothers, Norman Wenger, of Decatur, and Don (Ann) Wenger, of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Joan (Gene) Clanin, of Bluffton, and Betty Lou Bercot, of Berne; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A service was held Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton, with Dr. Jeane Spoor officiating. Burial was at the Six Mile Cemetery, Bluffton, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 111, of Bluffton, and the United States Navy Honor Guard.
