Dorothy Irene Bontrager, 90, of Hartford City, IN, and having family members in Andrews, IN, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at 6:30 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor in Hartford City.
Mrs. Bontrager was a homemaker and a former resident of LaGrange.
She was born Oct. 13, 1921, in White Lake, WI, to William Spencer and Josephine Ramey Swim. Her first marriage was on April 28, 1946, to Arlo E. Van Gordon, who preceded her in death on April 3, 1979. Her second marriage was in 1985 in Fort Wayne to Ora J.K. "Orie" Bontrager, who preceded her in death in 2005.
Survivors include four daughters, Esther (O'Dell) Lakes, of Carmel; Joy (Dave) Bellinski, of Troy, IL; Sharon (Richard) Van Gordon-Fry, of Andrews; and Nancy (Michael) Lager, of Williamsburg, VA; three sons, John (Toni) Van Gordon, of Keystone; and David (Cindy) Van Gordon and Michael A. Van Gordon, both of Hartford City; 14 stepchildren, Ada Schrock, Mary Colwell, Ellis (Ruby) Bontrager, Eldon Bontrager, Elvie (Ruby) Bontrager, Ola Cosby, Bessie Lehman, Allen Bontrager, Elroy (Michelle) Bontrager, Albert (Patty) Bontrager, Velma (James) Larimer, Verlo (Linda) Bontrager, Cletus (Brenda) Bontrager and Marlin (Brenda K.) Bontrager;
a brother, Bud (Kathy) Swim; five sisters, Myrt Rich, Barbara Bain, Mellie (Johnny) Hall, Bea Ruth and Faye (Larry) Richter; 12 grandchildren; 35 stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 78 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
A service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Keplinger Funeral Home, Hartford City. Rev. Kevin Lex of Calvary Pentecostal Church officiated. Interment was at Hartford City Cemetery, Hartford City.
