The Huntington North High School boys' cross country team followed up its first place showing in the Marion sectional on Tuesday, Oct. 9, by claiming the top spot once again, in the Marion regional on Saturday, Oct. 13.
The Vikings narrowly edged South Adams, 73-76, for the regional crown.
Senior Cordell Lewis set the pace Huntington North, finishing first on the team and third overall in 16:25.21. Fellow senior Jacob Ambriole came next and placed seventh overall in 16:45.24 to give Huntington North two top 10 runners.
Junior Charlie Mettler and sophomores Austin Lange and Matt Dewitt finished as a unit, with Mettler earning 22nd place in 17:24.65, Lange placing 23rd in 17:26.14 and DeWitt grabbing 24th in 17:31.34 to complete the team's scoring.
Sophomore Cam DeWitt and senior Jacob Miller were close behind, finishing 26th in 17:36.78 and 29th in 17:40.61, respectively, to round out the team.
Other teams advancing to semi-state at New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 20, are Northfield, Oak Hill and Fort Wayne South Side with scores of 82, 108 and 136, respectively.
The top 15 individuals, regardless of team, also advanced, and they are Joshua Neideck of Eastbrook, Brent Bales of Norwell, Austin Feipel of New Haven, Lucas Martinez of Fort Wayne Wayne, Christopher Foss of Eastbrook and Sam Hall, of Wabash.
Semi-state is next Saturday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. at New Haven.
Caleb Augustus of Northfield was the individual champion, crossing the line in 16:01.37.
