Alice M. Harber, 82, of Columbia City, IN, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at 4:05 p.m. at her home.
Mrs. Harber graduated from Central Catholic High School, Fort Wayne, in 1948. A lifetime Allen and Whitley County resident, she lived at her Jefferson Township home since 1993. She worked at Flick's Flowers and in the cafeteria and as a secretary at Lincoln Life Insurance Co., Fort Wayne. Her memberships included St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality; Whitley County Home Demonstration Club, Irish Loaners, Linc's Retirees Club, Card Club and the Tri-State Jay Bird Camping Club.
She was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Fort Wayne to Charles L. and Mildred Flick Buchanan. She married Joseph Marion Harber on Oct. 9, 1948, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Robert J. Harber, of New Haven, and Kenneth L. Harber and Ed (Sue) Harber, both of Columbia City; four daughters, Mary (Kenneth) Shaw, of Ossian; Sharon (Juergen) Mauger and Nancy (Bill) Arivett, both of Huntington; and Susan (Michael) Phillips, of Columbia City; a sister, Louise Subdza, of Fort Wayne; two sisters-in-law, Mary Francis Strack, of Fort Wayne, and Delores Harber, of Columbia City; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Rosary service at 5:30 p.m., at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Arcola, with one hour of calling prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Arcola.
Memorials may be given for Masses or to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, in Fort Wayne.
