The Huntington North High School volleyball team won the South Side Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 20, with a sweep of host South Side in the championship match and a win over Jay County prior to that.
The Lady Vikings, 21-13 made quick work of the Archers, 25-17, 25-10, 25-17.
Junior Josie Beaver had nine kills and senior Alexis Wygant added seven. Freshman Alexa Hill was the assists leader, with 15, and senior Allyson Trout dished out nine.
Huntington North gave an impressive defensive effort, with junior Mikayla Carpenter, senior Marisa Kitt, Wygant and Trout scrapping up 12, 10, nine and seven digs, respectively.
Junior Jessie Drew had 14 kills and Beaver had 11 to help lead the Lady Vikings over Jay County in the earlier match, 25-17, 25-13, 23-25, 25-13.
Senior Josie Eckert also got in on the offensive action and made eight kills.
Trout and Hill had 18 assists apiece to go along with six digs and 10 digs, respectively. Wygant and Carpenter each had 17 digs to lead the team, and Kitt added nine more.
