The Roanoke Town Council decided Tuesday, Nov. 6, to award a contract for the extension of High Street to Iron Clad Excavating.
The motion to award the Roanoke-based company the job passed unanimously. The High Street extension project will connect Roanoke to a cluster of businesses currently only accessible via U.S.-24.
A motion to review the salaries of town employees and make a decision on those salaries at the Nov. 20 meeting of the council passed unanimously.
Town Marshal Jim Wood announced that the Roanoke Police Department is starting a program to ensure the safety of the town's elderly citizens that may have Alzheimer's or dementia. Any caregiver is invited to contact the police department with any information they are comfortable in relaying to it in case of an emergency.
Wood also announced that the police department had been awarded a $1,000 grant from Norfolk Southern to use as it sees fit. Wood applied for the grant.
The council approved a request by Utility Superintendent Paul Swain to use $37,000, in January, for the purchase of a truck.
