The Huntington University men's basketball team went into the half of its game against visiting Cardinal Stritch University in a 30-18 hole and couldn't dig itself out in the second half in a 58-45 loss in the championship game of the Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Shane Merryman was the only Forester in double figures, with 18 points, and the junior also led the team in rebounds, with nine.
Alec Peterson contributed eight points and Tyler Arrowsmith added seven as the Foresters fell to 2-2.
The Foresters cut Stritch's lead down to 35-31 at the 14:55 mark in the second half, but the Wolves pushed the lead back to eight points less than four minutes later, 43-35, and led by at least that margin for the rest of the game.
Derek Semenas had 14 points and Tony Smit added 13 for Stritch, 3-0.
The Foresters hit only 5 of 15 shots from the field in the first half on the way to hitting 15 of 35 field goal attempts for 42.9 percent in the contest. They hit 9 of 14 three throws for for 56 percent.
Stritch hit 24 of 53 from the field for 45.3 percent and just 5 of 11 from the free-throw line for 45.5 percent
