Kevin Bloom nailed a 3-pointer with three seconds left to lift host University of Saint Francis to a 68-66 win over the Huntington University men's basketball team on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Bloom's bucket broke a 65-65 tie. The Foresters' Tyler Ault and Ryan Boester both came up empty on their attempts to give Huntington, 3-4, the late lead, setting up Bloom's game-winner. Huntington didn't get a chance to answer, as Saint Francis sent Boester to the charity stripe, where he sunk one of two free throws to take the game to its final tally.
Shane Merryman scored 18 points to lead the Foresters, who led at the half, 36-33, but at one point held at 15-point lead. Alec Peterson and Colin Featherston supplemented that performance with 10 points apiece.
HU was up 30-15 when Merryman scored with 7:35 left in the half, but USF finished the half on an 18-6 run. Scott Kohne, the game's leading scorer with 29 points, pumped in eight during the run.
Kohne also had 12 rebounds for his night's work.
Ethan Hussey added 13 points to Saint Francis' cause and Bloom finished with eight.
Saint Francis barely edged Huntington in field goal percentage for the game, hitting 26 of 53 shots for a 49.1 percentage to the Foresters' 45.1 percentage on 23 of 51 buckets.
T.J. Short led the Foresters in rebounds with eight, and Stephen Jones was the assist leader with five.
