Robert W. "Sam" Hummer, 86, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 4:45 p.m. at his home.
Mr. Hummer retired from Franklin Finance of Indiana in Huntington, and prior to that, he worked at Firstmark Financial for 30 years. He served as Huntington city councilman for more than 19 years. He was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a member, former commander and a part of the color guard, for many years with the VFW Post 2689 of Huntington.
A 1944 graduate of Huntington High School, he served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Huntington to Lulu Hummer. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1944. He married Martha Richardson on Oct. 3, 1948, in Huntington. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Jane A. (Steve) Bell, of Huntington; a son, Bradley K. Hummer, of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 1000 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Marti Lundy will officiate. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, with VFW Post 2689 performing military graveside rites.
