Billy L. Snyder, 82, of Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of Bippus, IN, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, in Fort Wayne.
Born in Bippus to Lloyd and Ester Snyder, Mr. Snyder graduated from Huntington High School and Ball State University. He served in the United States Army and played in the Army band. He was founder/president of Community Mortgage, in Fort Wayne
Mr. Snyder and his wife Sue founded the Hoosier Shooters basketball club. He was a member of Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, charter member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and various golfing groups and professional organizations. He played drums for the Jimmy Stier Band and the Shrine Band.
Mr. Snyder married Sue Akers, and they were married for 52 years before she preceded him in death in 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Jill (Greg) Frew, of New York, NY, and a son, Steve Snyder, of North Webster.
He is also survived by a companion, Kathy Hines, of Fort Wayne.
Calling is Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at D. O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne. A service will be Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 4700 Vance Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one-half hour prior. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
