Donald E. Dimond, 85, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Miller's Merry Manor, in Huntington.
Mr. Dimond was a 1945 graduate of Huntington High School and attended Huntington College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a medic. He was a member of the Huntington Fire Department for 23 years, serving as deputy fire chief for many years and retiring in 1970. He later served as director of the Huntington and Huntington County planning departments. He was a former president of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.
He was a member of American Legion Post 7 and Amity Lodge 483 F.&A.M., both in Huntington, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne, Huntington York Rite, Mizpah Shrine and Order of Eastern Star Floral Chapter 75.
He was born March 23, 1927, in Huntington to Harry and Esther Hartman Dimond. He married LaVond G. Pinkerton on Dec. 6, 1953, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Steven (Carol) Dimond, of Huntington Beach, CA, and Roger (Denna) Dimond, of Huntington; a brother, Robert (Doris) Dimond, of Carmel; four grandchildren, John Dimond, of Huntington Beach, CA, and Jennifer Shaffer, Tiffany Dimond and Vanessa Dimond, all of Huntington; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a Masonic service following at 7 p.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held at the mortuary on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Etna Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, Huntington.
