Kalvin Miller forced two overtime periods with three-point shots before hitting a layup that would prove to be the game-winning points for the Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team, 81-79, in its tilt against visiting Muncie Central on Friday, Jan. 25.
Miller scored a game-high 26 points, hitting 6 of 7 from beyond from the arc for the Vikings, 8-8, 2-2 in the North Central Conference. Noah Reed poured in 19 points to the team's cause on 7 for 11 shooting, Paul Ehler produced 14 with a 4 for 4 showing from three-point land and Caleb Landrum contributed 10.
Huntington North and Muncie Central battled back and forth the entire game, exchanging the lead 11 times and playing to 10 ties. The Vikings led at halftime, 31-30, before needing Miller's trey to send things into overtime, 59-59. The senior's second clutch trey knotted things up at 71-71 to set the stage for his game-winning layup.
Jabriel Allen led the Bearcats with 23 points. Kaleb Mallory was close behind, with 22 points, and Tim Barrett had 17.
For the game, Huntington North outshot Muncie Central 61.9 percent to 45.4, hitting 26 of 42 shots to the Bearcats' 25 of 55 showing.
The Huntington North junior varsity edged Muncie Central, 43-41.
Grant Canady led the Vikings with 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
