Mavin Chaney won balance beam for the Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team as Lady Vikings placed second in a meet against host Homestead and Heritage on Thursday, Jan. 31.
Chaney's 8.05 secured her the top spot for the Lady Vikings, which accumulated 96.05 points, ahead of Heritage's 95.20, but behind Homestead's 97.65, which won the meet.
Carly Snyder finished two spots behind Chaney on balance beam, landing in third with a 7.60.
A trio of Huntington North gymnasts placed in the top four on the floor exercise, with Alexa Shoemaker capturing second with an 8.80, Chaney taking third with an 8.45 and Robyn Karst tying for fourth with Homestead's Taylor Ross with an 8.35.
Three Lady Vikings finished in succession on vault as Chaney tallied an 8.60 for third, Karst's 8.55 snagged fourth and Mikayla Carpenter's 8.45 netted fifth.
Homestead dominated on the uneven bars, sweeping the top five spots, but Snyder snuck in for sixth with a 7.45.
In the all-around, Chaney finished third with a 32.50, trailed by Snyder in fourth with a 31.35.
