Two members of the Huntington North High School varsity wrestling team punched their tickets to state at the Snider Wrestling Semi-State at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, in Fort Wayne, on Saturday, Feb. 9.
Senior Sebastian Eckert, wrestling at 152 pounds, and junior Kyle Jolas at 145 both finished third in their weight class to qualify for the state wrestling finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, in Indianapolis, on Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16.
In capturing their third-place finishes, Eckert topped Carroll's Tristan Wilson and Jolas defeated North Miami's Levi McKee, running their records to 33-6 and 41-4, respectively.
This will be Jolas' third trip to state.
Sophomore Tanner Shipley at 132 also competed at semi-state for the Vikings, finishing sixth in his weight class. Wrestlers had to finish fourth or higher to advance.
Shipley finsished the season at 35-10.
Both Eckert and Jolas went 3-1 on the day and lost to the eventual champion in their classes in the quarterfinals. Isaiah Bradley of Muncie South Side won at 152 and goes into state with a spotless 33-0 record, and Jolas was defeated by Eli Walker of Yorktown, who goes into state with a 40-1 mark.
A total of five wrestlers left Fort Wayne with perfect records intact. In addition to Bradley, also undefeated heading into state from the Fort Wayne Semi-State are Connor Knapp of East Noble at 113, Nick Crume of Jimtown at 126, Riley Lefever of Fort Wayne Carroll at 170 and Fletcher Miller of Kokomo at 220. Knapp is 40-0, Crume is 34-0, Lefever is 43-0 and Miller is 47-0.
