Emily O'Leary and Allison Greene combined for seven runs batted in to lead the Huntington University softball team past visiting Siena Heights, 12-4, in the second game for a split of its doubleheader on Saturday, March 30.
The Foresters, 5-5, lost the first contest, 5-4.
O'Leary, a freshman from Hebron, had four RBI, and Greene, a senior, added three as the Foresters got the second game win. Although they took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, it was a seven-run fourth that broke open a close 5-4 game.
O'Leary knocked in the Foresters' first two runs of the game with a double in the first, and Green plated the second two of the frame with a single.
O'Leary knocked in the first two runs of the big fourth with a single, and following a double by Katie Knous, Lindsay Shellabarger singled in the third run of the frame. A wild pitch pushed the count to 9-4 before Green singled in the 10th run for HU. A single by Bailey McIntire brought in yet another run, and Kaitlyn Troyer got the final run with her legs by stealing home later in the inning.
Greene had three hits in addition to the ribbies, and McIntire, Katie Bowers, O'Leary, Knous and Shellabarger each had two.
The Foresters had 14 hits as a team.
Kaylin Yon got the mound win, throwing five innings and allowing four earned runs and four hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Foresters spotted Siena Heights a 5-1 lead in the opener before rallying back for three runs in the sixth inning to make the score close.
Shellabarger had two RBI for HU, and Weaver and Bowers each had two hits.
Emily Puterbaugh took the loss, going all seven innings and allowing seven hits and three earned runs, with five strikeouts and three walks.
