Ruthanna Wolfgang, 87, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN.
Mrs. Wolfgang graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1944. She attended Marion Business College and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Ball State University. She was a teacher of special needs elementary students in the Blackford County Schools for 11 years. She attended Hartford City Wesleyan Church.
She was a 60-year member and past president of an Extension Homemaker Club, a member and past president of the Blackford County Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Farm Bureau Co-op, Blackford County Retired Teachers Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, Monday Morning Bridge Club and the Red Hat Society at Heritage Pointe.
She was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Fairmount to John F. and Ethel B. Corn Newby. She married Victor Hugh "Vic" Wolfgang on July 10, 1945, at her parents' home in Matthews. Her husband preceded her in death on March 12, 2000.
Survivors include four sons, Richard L. (Arlene K.) Wolfgang, of Lagro; Victor Randal "Randy" Wolfgang, of Tipton; Howard D. (Susan R.) Wolfgang, of Harford City; and Harold W. (Cynthia K.) Wolfgang, of Marion; 11 grandchildren, Daphne (Tim) McMullen, Jeffrey Wolfgang, Amy Wolfgang, Ian Wolfgang, Brittany Wolfgang, Jonathan Wolfgang, Daniel (Carolyn) Wolfgang, Stephen (Brittany) Wolfgang, Shane Wolfgang, Vanessa (Charles) Wright and Tonya Reed; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A service was held on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Keplinger Funeral Home, Hartford City, with Rev. Tom Parsons officiating. Burial was at Matthews Cemetery, in Matthews.
