The Huntington University baseball team was held to just one run in each game as it lost a doubleheader to visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 5-1, and 9-1, on Tuesday, April 9.
The double defeat dropped the Foresters to 7-17 on the season, 7-7 in Crossroads League play.
The Foresters took their only lead of the day when they scored a run in the first inning of the first game, but after that it was all MVNU. The Cougars took the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning, tacked on two more in the fourth and scored an insurance tally in the fifth.
Adam Christner, who had two hits for HU, doubled to start the HU half of the first inning and stole third base before coming home on a Blake Ayers groundout.
Derek McKinney took the first game loss for HU, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.
Marc Bowers also had two hits for HU.
The Cougars got a home run from Sean Fleming.
Ben Hoar went the distance for MVNU, with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Cougars went right to work in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning and putting up a big six-spot in the second before HU tallied its lone run of the contest.
Kenny McCambridge dominated the HU batters throughout the game, picking up six strikeouts against no walks while allowing seven hits and the lone run.
Bowers added two more hits in the nightcap for HU, and Ayers also had two hits.
The Cougars made quick work of HU starter Cory Walters, scoring eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits in 1.2 innings of work.
