Since 2006, Bippus State Bank has cumulatively raised $10,000 in community donations.
Every Friday, the bank's employees donate $2 and are allowed to wear jeans to work. The money is then put towards a community organization such as Love INC or The Salvation Army.
The donations were started by Dawn Downs, bank employee.
Downs says, "Our BSB team is fantastic. We get to wear jeans to work, and in-turn are helping our community. We love it."
The donated funds are dispersed in Huntington County at different times throughout the year.
Annually, in August, donations are given to Love INC to benefit their back-to-school fair. This helps Love INC purchase items such as jeans, socks and underwear for underprivileged children. Bippus State Bank has donated $4,226 in clothing to support this program.
The bank has also donated over $5,000 in funding for the Adopt-A-Family program held at Love INC at Christmas each year. Since 2007, Bippus State Bank has adopted over 30 families, providing for more than 120 children.
In addition, bank employees donate their time to shop and wrap gifts, and deliver them to the families.
The jeans fund is also used to purchase gifts for children through The Salvation Army's angel tree program. The bank has funded gifts for nearly 30 angels and has also donated items to the Stuff-a-Stocking program.
At Bippus State Bank in North Manchester, employees also donate money, which has been donated to Manchester Elementary School's Christmas angel program and Toys for Tots.
Downs states, "We really have a lot of fun with these programs. It is very rewarding to help others. I am very proud of this goal that our employees have reached and am looking forward to reaching our new goal of $20,000."
