Robert Martin Hine, 95, with ties to Roanoke, IN, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Coventry Meadows, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hine had lived in Jefferson Township, Whitley County, most of his life. He had worked at Coil Engineering, in Roanoke, and Dana, in Fort Wayne. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving four years in the 192nd Headquarters Company and the 38th Cyclone Division and receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other medals from New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a member of American Legion Post 160 and St. Joseph Catholic Church, both in Roanoke.
He was the son of Gustave A. and Myra Hae Hine. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marcene Anne McCaughey Hine.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Hine; a son, Edward (Cindy) Hine; a sister, Genevieve Frazier; a brother, John (Evelyn) Hine; and a grandson, Kevin Hine.
Calling is Friday, April 26, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 3:30 p.m., at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N. Main St., Roanoke. Rev. Dale Bauman will officiate. Entombment, with military honors, will be at Covington Memorial Gardens.
