The Huntington University softball team got a pair of
home runs in each game and swept visiting Concordiaq University 6-4, 6-3, on Thursday, April 25.
Lindsay Shellabarger and Katie Knous provided the power in the opener, going yard back-to-back in the fourth inning to cut the Concordia lead to 4-2 at that point. A three-run fifth inning, highlighted by doubles from Annie Weaver, Katie Bowers and Knous, enabled the Foresters to take a 5-4 lead before they got an insurance run in the sixth.
Kaylin Yon got the win on the mound, going all seven innings and yielding four earned runs on eight hits, with six strikeouts and two walks.
Bowers and Emily O'Leary hit the dingers in the second game, and each got a pair of runs batted in.
The Foresters, 16-14, struck first in the nightcap, getting two runs in the first inning, with Bowers' triple being the big blow. Bowers then rounded the bases completely in the third to put HU up 3-0, and after both teams scored a run in the fourth O'Leary launched a two-run bomb to give HU a 6-1 lead.
Emily Puterbaugh got the win, giving up two earn runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk in six innings. Ariel Sheets finished up for the final inning.
Knous and Weaver each had two hits in the opener, and Knous wound up with three RBI. In the second contest, Cristin Carter and Bowers each had a pair of safeties.
