4-H auction brings in $300,000-plus

The 2023 Huntington County 4-H Fair Livestock Auction is being called a success. There were 425 lots sold for 4-H members in the county on Thursday, July 27, with a total premium of $246,790.  Total auction proceeds to 4-H members including the market value of livestock was $301,033.74.   No records were set for the sale of grand champion animals at this year’s auction.  In comparison to the 2022 auction, five more lots sold with total auction proceeds increasing by $17,439.80. A breakdown by breed is as follows: Dairy: 4 animals for $2,725.

Local Scouts visit Wyoming

High altitude, steep climbs, and tricky stream crossings challenged boy scouts from Huntington’s BSA Troop 130 during the week of July 9-15 in Wyoming’s Bridger Wilderness. The wilderness, spanning 428,087 acres, lies in the heart of the beautiful Wind River Range, part of the Rocky Mountains connecting Colorado’s Front Range with the Tetons of northern Wyoming.

Zay named to study committee

State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor and the Advisory Board for the Principal Institute in preparation for the 2024 legislative session. “As the state senator for District 17, ensuring all Hoosiers have access to good jobs is one of the most important things I do,” Zay said.

Wiley named Athlete of the Year

Huntington North alum Addy Wiley has had an outstanding freshman year at Huntington University.

The Crossroads League announced its 2022-2023 Female Athlete-of-the-Year honor on Wednesday, with Huntington’s cross country and track standout, Addy Wiley, claiming the top honor. Wiley made her mark on the NAIA, Crossroads League and Huntington record books during her incredible freshman collegiate campaign. The cross country and track student-athlete ran to seven NAIA National Championships and nine NAIA All-American honors to headline her historic 2022-2023 season.

Atkinson, Amick crowned 4-H royalty

Samantha Atkinson was crowned queen and Aaron Amick was crowned king of the 2023 Huntington County 4-H. The pair received the crown during a ceremony Friday, July 14. Carter Zezula was named first runner-up in the king contest. In the queen contest, Kelsie Ludemann was named the first runner-up, and Kylee Burnau was named second runner-up. The royalty will reign this week during the Huntington County 4-H Fair. The fair continues through Saturday, July 29, at the fairgrounds.
