An 11th inning solo home run by Erin Rethlake broke a scoreless deadlock between the Huntington North High School varsity softball team and defending Class A state softball champion Lakewood Park Christian on Monday, April 29, and helped the Lady Vikings win 3-0.
It was a pitching duel between Rethlake and the host Panthers' Mikeila Boroff as they each threw a complete game with 12 strikeouts.
The similarities stop, however, with Boroff surrendering 10 hits to Rethlake's four, with none being more damaging than the round-tripper by the Huntington North ace. The Lady Vikings upped the lead when Alyssa Hiple and Natasha Grover banged out hits to reach base and a Cassie Lange poke brought the pair home.
Rethlake then took care of business in the circle in the bottom of the 11th to ice the win.
Rethlake and Hiple led Huntington North, 9-1, with three hits apiece. Makayla Whaley had two hits.
Hannah Priskorn's 2 for 5 night at the plate paced Lakewood.
With the shutout, Rethlake's streak of scoreless pitching extends to six games.
