Alyssa Hiple, Audrey Hiner and Kaylynn Rosen each went 4 for 4 and combined for nine runs batted in to lead the Huntington North High School varsity softball team to a 17-5 win over host Marion on Tuesday, April 30.
The Lady Vikings, 11-1, got off to a fast start with three runs in the first inning, then scored two in the third and posted a seven-spot in the fourth. They got five more runs in the fifth, and after Marion could only come up with two in the bottom half of the frame, the game was ended on the 10-run rule.
Hiple had three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored, while Hiner had two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored. Rosen had three RBI and two runs scored.
The big sticking made a winner of HNHS starter Mikayla Gray, who went the first three innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits, with two strikeouts and two walks. Tori Newsome pitched the final two innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits, with two strikeouts.
