Earl L. Elsten age 91, a lifetime resident of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, May 2, 2013, at 5:18 p.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mr. Elsten retired in 1983 from Fisher Engineering Machine Shop in Huntington after serving 17 years as a foreman. He also was the former owner of the East Side Aquarium for over 12 years. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene of Huntington and was a member of The VFW Post 2689 of Huntington. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served as a specialist in World War II.
He was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Huntington to John E. and Letha I. Bailey Elsten. He married Helen Bair, and she preceded him in death. He married Evelyn Cosart Abner on March 25, 1989, in Roanoke. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Thomas J. (Barbara) Elsten, of Warsaw, and Richard W. (Cindy) Elsten, of Bluffton; four daughters, Barbara Meekin, of Andrews; Sharon (Lin) Sorenson, of Huntington; Brenda (Daryl) Hare, of Auburn; and Cheryl (Dave) Caudle, of Aurora, CO; three stepdaughters, Deborah (Curt) Day, of Warren; Jeanine (James) Harmon, of Garland, TX; and Karen (Larry) Poling, of Huntington; 18 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W.Park Drive, Huntington, with a funeral service following at 2. Rev. Gene Vickery will officiate. Burial will be in Markle Cemetery, Markle, with VFW Post 2689 of Huntington performing graveside military rites.
