The Huntington North High School girls' varsity tennis team lost by a tally of 1-4 to both Muncie Central and Richmond on the road at a North Central Conference three-way meet on Saturday, May 4.
The first doubles pair of Mariah Zumbrun and Ashley Bard accounted for both of the Lady Vikings' wins, topping Richmond's Julia Hays and Kaitlyn Harrison, 6-1, 6-1, and Muncie Central's Samantha Bartholome and Maggie Burnies, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
The pair of losses snips the Lady Vikings' six-match win string, dropping their record to 6-5.
Ana Eckert and Emily Karst at second doubles ended up on the wrong side of the day's most competitive match, falling to Richmond's Krissy Krammer and Emma Lady 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7). The duo dropped its second match of the day to Muncie Central's Sydney Clasby and Haley Osborne, 3-6, 4-6.
At first singles, Kylie Fredrick fell to Richmond's Peyton Young 1-6, 1-6, and Muncie Central's Ada Kirby 1-6, 5-7; Kari Bard at second singles lost to Richmond's Katy Robinson, 1-6, 3-6, and Muncie Central's Meghan Jackson, 1-6, 2-6; and third singles player Emily Eherenman got dropped by Richmond's Kaitlin Kramer, 2-6, 1-6, and Muncie Central's Kristi Rhodes, 2-6, 0-6.
The Huntington North junior varsity had a better day, sweeping Richmond 4-0 while losing to Muncie Central 1-5 to leave with a record of 8-3.
Maddie Phillips and Alexis Fairchild at second doubles were perfect on the day, beating Richmond's Madison Dillon and Shelby Helton 6-0 and taking down Muncie Central's Olivia Kennedy and Kennedy Pork, 8-6.
Alisha Leffler at first singles, Sarah Fryman at second singles and the first doubles duo of Hannah Edris and Kristin Dyson helped Phillips and Fairchilds complete the sweep of Richmond.
