The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team broke a 3-3 tie in extra innings with a four-run eighth and then held off host Logansport to win 7-5 on Wednesday, May 8.
Drew Schnitz led the Vikings, 12-5, 6-2 in the North Central Conference, with a home run, three runs batted in and a run scored.
Mitch Hughes added two hits, an RBI and run to the team's cause while Caleb Richison and Evan Brown also supplied two pokes, the latter plating one.
Connor West had the Vikings' other RBI and Derek Snyder scored a team-high two runs.
Huntington North put a run on the board in the first, third and fourth innings. Logansport responded with solo scores of its own in the second, fourth and fifth frames and fell two runs shy of tying the Vikings again when it plated two in the bottom of the eighth.
A homer was among Clayton Frye's two hits, who paced the Berries with a trio of runs and an RBI.
Braydin Stell, 2-1, got the win on the mound for Huntington North, limiting Logansport to two hits and as many earned runs in 3.2 innings of work in relief of start Matt Hogan.
Matt Hogan threw 4.1 frames for the Vikings and ceded three hits and as many earned runs while striking out four.
Of the Berries' three hurlers on the day, Cody Graf took the loss after surrendering three hits and four earned runs in 2.2 innings.
