The Huntington University Theater Company has announced four major productions for its 2013-14 season.
The season opens with "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe," based on the book by C.S. Lewis. Performances are Sept. 26, 27, 28 and Oct. 5 at the Merillat Centre for the Arts.
The musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" will be performed Nov. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. The story follows a headstrong young bride who attempts to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law.
"Red," winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play, is a depiction of 20th Century artist Mark Rothko as he struggles with a fear of becoming superfluous even at the height of his commercial success. Performances are Feb. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. Some content may not be suitable for children.
The main season wraps up with "Charley's Aunt" April 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12. In this British farce, two lovesick young men enlist a school friend to impersonate a wealthy aunt so that they can introduce her to their girlfriends.
Several other productions are planned as part of HU's lab season.
They include Fresh Faces, introducing the freshman class, on Sept. 13; Senior Showcase, featuring the talents of graduating seniors, on March 7; and the One Act Festival on May 2 and 3.
Tickets are now on sale and may be reserved by calling the Merillat Centre for the Arts box office at 359-4261 Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will also be sold at the door before each performance.
