Freshman Isaac Wust's first collegiate goal lifted the Huntington University men's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime victory over visiting Concordia University in the team's season-opener on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Wust, a former Huntington North star, took a Brooks Gerke pass and put the ball past Concordia's goalie just 27 seconds into overtime to give the Foresters the win.
Concordia's Zain Qureshi fired a shot past Forester goalie Drew Mattingly at the 66:47 mark in the second half to knot things up 2-2.
The Foresters, 1-0, outshot the Cardinals on goal 10 to 5 for the game.
Joey Newbery had one of those shots for Huntington, converting it for a score at 40:26 in the first half, on an assist by Gerke, which tied things up at 1-1, following Cory Briggs' goal for Concordia at 10:06.
Scott Murray found the back of the net just two minutes later for another Forester goal, with help from Paul Holliday, to put Huntington up 2-1 going into the break.
Mattingly had three saves for the contest to pick up the win.
