John Philip Stocksdale, 90, of Bozeman, MT, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Spring Creek Inn Memory Care Community in Bozeman, MT.
Mr. Stocksdale graduated from Union High School in 1941 and attended Huntington College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a radar technician. He was employed by Southern Automatic Music Co., in Fort Wayne, and Shaffer Music Co., in Indianapolis and later in Cincinnati, OH, before becoming a partner in J&J distributors, an amusement and vending equipment company, in the mid-1950s. After moving to Bozeman, MT, he acquired D&R Music, an amusement machine business that later became a coffee distributorship. He retired in 2006. He had served on the board of directors of the Amusement and Music Operators Association.
He was born April 30, 1923, in Huntington County to Roland and Edith Kriegbaum Stocksdale. He married Dorothy Jean Lantis on June 22, 1947, and she survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, John Jr. (Karen) Stocksdale, of Santa Rosa, CA, and Chuck (Toni) Stocksdale, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Teresa (Scott) LeProwse, of Bozeman, MT; and six grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, Chuck, Samantha, Kelly and Megan.
The family will hold a private graveside service.
