The Huntington North High School boys' varsity tennis team fell to visiting Muncie Central and Richmond on Saturday, Aug. 24, by matching scores of 2-3.
The Vikings, 0-4, picked up all their wins in doubles play, where they went undefeated on the day.
Against Muncie Central, senior Matt Sieberns and junior Graham Sereno beat Bently Burkhalter and Bobby Cunningham at first doubles, 6-3, 7-5. In the second doubles match, senior Andrew Smith and freshman Nick May triumphed over Jordan Smith and Clark Tinder, 6-4, 6-2.
In the Richmond match, Sieberns and Sereno edged Jordan Lake and Logan Mayer at first doubles, 6-4, 8-6, while Smith and May defeated Jacob Weiss and Ross Harrington at second doubles, 6-4, 6-2.
At first singles, senior Tommy Bolinger lost to Muncie Central's Khamasi Muhiga, 0-6, 0-6, and Richmond's Eric Hollingsworth, 0-6, 1-6. No. 2 singles player senior Wyatt Nave fell to the Bearcats' Andrew Fox, 1-6, 0-6, and the Red Devils' Corey Cox, 3-6, 0-6. Senior Cameron Buzzard at third singles rounded out the team's play with losses of 4-6, 1-6 to Drake Clohessy of Muncie Central and 3-6, 2-6 to Max Van Buskirk of Richmond.
The Viking junior varsity split its matches, losing to the Bearcats, 2-4, but beating the Red Devils, 5-1.
Junior Tristan Thieken, at first singles, beat Muncie Central's Kaes Petroviak, 8-1, and Richmond's Ross Doughty, 8-4. No. 2 singles player, freshman Tyler Gates, defeated the Bearcats' Nick Schmaltz, 8-6, and the Red Devils' Brett Bowershock, 8-1.
At third singles, junior Hunter Phillips triumphed over his Richmond opponent, 8-5. The first doubles duo of juniors Nathan Lundy and Cameran Stuttle was victorious against the Red Devils' Kong Vorachack and Daniel Jones, 8-4, while second doubles pair Matt York and Brent Krieger, both freshmen, topped Parth Brahmbhatt and Andrew Williams, of Richmond, 8-2.
