The Huntington University men's soccer team fell to host Rochester College, 3-2, on Saturday, Sept. 7, for its first loss of the season.
The Warriors' Joey Beshara got the scoring started early, netting a goal 7:53 in the game. The Foresters, 3-1, didn't wait long to respond as senior Jake Essig knotted things up at the 15:44 mark off an assist from sophomores Josh Codd and Tyson Bradley-Kalischuk.
But the tie didn't last as Rochester pierced the Huntington defense for two goals before the half was done. Justin Kane supplied the first for the Warriors at 20:30 and Beshara got his second of the game at 39:21.
Both defenses hunkered down in the second half and the lone score came from the Foresters' Joey Newbery toward the end of the game, at 81:41.
Rochester edged Huntington in shots on goal, 7-4.
Senior goalkeeper Drew Mattingly got hung with the loss for the Foresters, making four saves in the complete game effort. Mattingly's Warrior counterpart, Alex Brown, also went the distance, recording two stops for the win.
