Missing one of its starting players possibly cost the Huntington University men's tennis team as it was edged by visiting Indiana Wesleyan, 5-4, on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Playing without usual No. 3 singles player and one-half of the No. 1 doubles team, Jose Hungria, the Foresters came up short for the first time this year in Crossroads League play, dropping to 4-1 in conference and 5-2 overall.
HU won three of the six singles matches, but only got one win at doubles.
Vlad Khudziy at first singles ran by Kyle Johnson, 6-1, 6-3, and Joseph Straznicky at second singles beat Brandon Dubuque, 4-6, 2-1 (retired). Diego Inurritegui at third singles defeated Leonard Mathews, 6-2, 7-5.
Straznicky and Inurritegui moved up to No. 1 doubles and defeated Johnson and Dubuque, 8-1, but Khudziy and Joe Brenneman at second doubles took a 8-9 loss to Mathews and Gavin White. Zakk Sparks and Derek Hinen lost to Kamen Tabor and Alex Hornett at third doubles, 8-5.
Sparks at fourth singles lost to White by identical 1-6 scores, Brenneman at fifth singles was a 2-6, 2-6 loser to Daniel Smith and Arjun Bhalla at sixth singles lost 3-6, 2-6, to Tabor.
