Austin C. "Ted" Hanauer, 89, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a native of Roanoke, IN, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hanauer attended Huntington College, where he played basketball, and played professional basketball before beginning his career in insurance. He was the founder of Hanauer Associates Insurance. He attended The Chapel and was past potentate of the Mizpah Shrine, past director of the Shriners Children's Hospital and a member of the Elks.
He was born in Roanoke to Othel and Grace Hanauer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hanauer.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Ron) Moenter, of Shelbyville; two sons, Rick Hanauer and Gary (Debbie) Hanauer, both of Fort Wayne; a sister, Marjorie Boze, of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Theresa (Zach) Frey, Chelsea (Nathan) James, Matt, Marisa, Joseph and Emily; and a great-granddaughter.
Calling is Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Rick Hawks will officiate. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
