The Huntington North High School girls' cross country team tallied 523 points to finish 23rd at the state finals, held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, in Terre Haute, on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Sophomore Hannah Stoffel finished in the top 50 out of 208 runners to lead the Lady Vikings, capturing 45th in 19:26. Freshman Cadee Harmon followed, making it into the top 100 by taking 91st in 20:21. Sophomore Marissa Jamison jumped in at 123rd, crossing the finish line in 20:48, with junior Emily Eherenman finishing seven seconds later, in 126th. Junior Taryn Doering placed 138th in 21:10 to complete the team's top five.
Carmel won the state championship with 76 points, paced by Kelcy Welch, who was the race's individual champion with a clocking of 17:53.
Hamilton Southeastern was runner-up with a tally of 122. Columbus North was third with 141, West Lafayette was fourth with 150 and Avon rounded out the top five teams with 152.
Also competing for Huntington North was senior Cassidy Johnson, who finished 150th in 21:28, and junior Stephanie McElhaney, who placed 161st in 21:57.
