Host Campbellsville University proved too powerful inside for the Huntington University women's basketball team as it put a 77-61 defeat on the Foresters on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The Tigers scored 42 points in the paint to drop the Foresters to 1-2 on the season. The hosts took a 34-19 lead by halftime and HU never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Senior Pazia Speed and sophomore Amelia Recker each scored 15 points to lead HU. Kelsey Hubble added 13 points.
Mary Jehlik scored 16 points to lead four Tigers in double figures. Katie Allen tallied 12 points, Daizah Kimberland added 11 points and Angie Lawrence had 10.
Recker had a double-double for HU as she topped all rebounders with 10 boards, but HU took a 40-30 beating as a team in that department.
Speed had six assists and three steals and Courtney Baker chipped in with four assists for HU.
The Foresters hit 20 of 48 shots from the field for 41.7 percent. They made 16 of 21 free throw tries for 76.2 percent.
Campbellsville hit 31 of 68 shots for 45.6 percent. The Tigers hit 9 of 14 shots from the stripe for 64.3 percent.
