Raymond M. Cross, 80, of Roanoke, IN, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at 8:49 a.m. at the Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Cross served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5710, in Shepherdsville, KY, and a member of American Legion Post 160, in Roanoke.
He was employed as a truck driver for more than 30 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 414 and Masonic Lodge 250 F.&A.M. in Pisgah, AR.
He was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Pike County, AR, to Ray and Effie Bateman Cross. He married Lavonne E. Strahm on Dec. 21, 1952, in Pike County, AR. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2011.
Survivors include three daughters, Berna Mae (Mike) Anderson and Amanda (Brad Ryan) Cross, both of Roanoke, and Myrna (Tim) Schoeff, of Huntington; a son, Melvin Ray Cross, of Niles, MI; two sisters, Juanita Hucherson, of Arkadelphia, AR, and Juanez May, of Wyandotte, MI; a brother, Fred Cross, of Delight, AR; nine grandchildren, Denise Anderson, Dena Tiefel, Denee Anderson, Ryan Cross, Stephanie Stickler, Caleb Cross, Rachel Cross, Rose Cross and Austin Cross; and six great-grandchildren.
Calling is Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes, 240 Crestwood Drive, Roanoke. A graveside service will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, 2403 Wallen Rd., Fort Wayne, with Tim Schoeff officiating.
