Dean L. Kern, 86, of Bluffton, IN, and a former resident of Markle, IN, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 10:50 a.m. at River Terrace Estates.
Mr. Kern graduated from East Union High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a life member of the Markle Church of Christ, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder.
He worked at General Motors for many year. He had also worked at Wayne Metal and RCA in Berne. He retired in 1993 from Magnavox, where he had worked for 25 years.
He was born March 15, 1927, in Fort Wayne to Arthur and Ethel Benjamin Kern. He married Ilene Cayot on June 8, 1946, in Fort Wayne. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Judy (John) Braden and Barb (Jerry) Sheets, both of Bluffton; Connie Kern, of North Webster; and Lisa (Randy) Workman, of Lagro; a brother, Walter Kern, of Avilla; two sisters, Arlene Hart, of Avilla, and Gloria Zielinski, of Newburn, NC; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Friday, March 7, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse St., Markle. A service will be held at the church on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Greg Comp and Gerald O. Moreland will officiate. Interment will be at Six Mile Cemetery, in Bluffton.
