Huntington North High School gymnastics team members Carly Snyder and Erica Freise punched their tickets to regional at the Concordia Lutheran Gymnastics Sectional on Saturday, March 8.
The top six finishers in each event, as well as in the all-around, earned a spot at the Huntington North Regional, set for Friday, March 14, at 6 p.m.
Snyder, a sophomore, advanced on the strength of two fifth place finishes, posting a 9.200 on balance beam and a 35.075 in the all-around, while Freise, a junior, moved on by placing sixth on the uneven bars with an 8.650.
The Lady Vikings fell just short of advancing as a team. Jay County grabbed the last of the three advancing slots to regionals with a 102.175, just ahead of fourth place Homestead's 101.725 and Huntington North's 101.175.
Bishop Dwenger tallied 112.200 points to top the meet, led by sophomore Maria Trahin's register of 37.600, which won the all-around title.
Carroll earned runner-up honors with a 106.775.
Snyder completed her all-around effort by placing 10th on both the bars and the floor, with marks of 8.225 and 8.950, respectively, and placing 17th on vault with an 8.700.
Freise placed 17th in all-around. She added to her bars effort by placing 13th on floor with an 8.825, 26th on vault with an 8.375 and 37th on beam with a 6.050.
Also competing on vault for HNHS was senior Alexa Shoemaker, who placed 30th with a score of 8.200.
Freshman Josie Graft placed 26th on bars with a score of 7.650 and Shoemaker added 35th with a 6.700.
Mikayla Carpenter placed 14th on beam with a score of 8.400 and sophomore Molly Smith added 25th with a 7.300 tally.
Shoemaker placed 18th on floor with a mark of 8.450.
