J.C. Butler, 81, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Monday, March 3, 2014.
Mr. Butler graduated from Dyer High School in 1951 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Methodist College, in Fayette, MO, in 1955.
He taught biology, science, health and driver education during a teaching career of 40 years, which included one year in Missouri, five years in Plymouth and 34 years in Fort Wayne. He had also coached football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis and golf in addition to mentoring a chess club for five years.
For 20 years, he installed swimming pools for NISCO in Fort Wayne. He attended West Main Church of the Nazarene for many years.
He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Harned, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernetta.
Survivors include a son, Dave (JoAn) Butler, of Columbia City; two daughters, Rhonda (Art) Daronatsy, of Huntington, and Carol (Anna Piech) Butler, of Fort Wayne; five sisters, Naomi, Mary, Latitia, Zelba and Edith; five grandchildren, Jason (Alex) Butler, Emily Butler, Lisa Daronatsy, Laura Daronatsy and Christopher Butler; and a great-granddaughter.
He is also survived by a companion, Delores Ruby.
Calling is Friday, March 14, 214, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne. A service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 1 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6600 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
