The Champion Hill Toppers will host the national 2014 Vintage Base Ball Conference (VBBA) in Huntington on March 21, 22 and 23.
Author Bob Gregory, who started the Fort Wayne Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), will speak.
Vintage baseball is played under the rules of the 1860s and 1870s when there were no gloves used, no one got paid and it was a "gentlemen's game." The club strives to continue that historical tradition. The players use terminology that was prevalent at the time.
There will be more than 70 players in attendance from markets as diverse as Brooklyn, New York, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Teams represented at the conference will include the Cincinnati Red Legs, Whiskey Island Shamrocks, Quicksteps and the Eckford BBC of Brooklyn.
The conference will be held at the LaFontaine Golf Course.
On Saturday, March 22, there will be a three inning pickup game in full vintage uniforms at Olde Republic Field at Lake Clare, the home of the Champion Hill Toppers.
