Elaine M. Hesting, 72, of Columbia City, IN, and having family members in Roanoke, IN, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 6 a.m. at her home.
Mrs. Hesting graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School, in Lafayette, in 1960. She worked as a teacher's assistant with the Whitley County Consolidated Schools, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality.
She was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Winston, CT, to Claude Brot Sr. and Alice LaFountain Harrington. She married Marvin R. Hesting on June 18, 1960, and he survives.
Additional survivors include five daughters, Vonda (Jeffrey) Cormany and Leah (Scott) Myer, both of Columbia City; Lisa (Edwin) Raby, of Salcha, AK; Lora (Curt) McClead, of Cary, NC; and Alanna (Rick) Stetzel, of Roanoke; two sons, Jared (Danelle) Hesting and Jason (Stacey) Hesting, both of Columbia City; a sister, Effie Roberts, of Salem, IL; a brother, Claude Brot "Chuck" (Dana) Harrington Jr., of Lafayette; 25 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Calling is Friday, May 9, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service starting at 4 p.m., at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 9989 S. Ind.-9, Columbia City, with Rev. Dale Bauman officiating. Burial will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Nix Settlement.
