James T. Cole Sr., 78, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at 9:05 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Cole graduated from Hazard High School in 1952 and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked for the City of Huntington in the water department for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He served as third district city councilman in Huntington from 1992 to 2000. He attended Salvation Army Church in Huntington, and he was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2689 in Huntington and a member of American Legion Post 248 in Lagro.
He was born July 23, 1935, in Hazard, KY, to Dewey and Ena Richardson Cole. He married Janet L. Weinley on March 10, 1961, in Claypool. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, James Thomas (Janice) Cole Jr., of Huntington; two brothers, Glenn Cole, of Huntington, and Bob (Shirley) Cole, of Marion; two grandchildren, Justin (Sara) Cole, of Lagro, and Bradley Cole, of Huntington; and one great granddaughter.
Calling is Monday, May 19, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Maj. Gerald Smelser officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Huntington County, with military graveside rites performed by VFW Post 2689 of Huntington.
