HCCSC announces winners of annual Christmas card contest

Five Huntington County Community School Corporation (HCCSC) students have been selected as the winners of the corporation’s annual Christmas card cover design contest, with two winners coming from Riverview Middle School and one winner coming from each of Crestview Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School and Salamonie Elementary School.

A long-standing holiday tradition, HCCSC asked art teachers to have students design holiday-themed greeting card covers for the annual holiday card sent to the superintendent’s mailing list. A total of 107 designs were submitted for the contest from the four aforementioned schools.

With countless quality entries, the selection committee and HCCSC Superintendent Chad Daugherty had a tough time choosing just five winners.
The five victorious designs were chosen after much deliberation, as Riverview’s Zoey Hensel and Garrett Pohler, Crestview’s Lydia Richardson, Lincoln’s Luna Castillo and Salamonie’s Adelynn Hethcote created the winning covers. Of note, Hensel repeated as one of the five winners, as she also was among the contest winners in 2020.

“We had a lot of amazing artwork submitted by students in all our schools this year,” Daugherty said. “It is always so difficult to pick just a few to use as holiday cards to send out on behalf of the school district. We would like to congratulate those students whose artwork was selected this holiday season and also thank our art teachers for their help in the design and creativity of the cards this year.”

Hensel created a winter snowstorm-inspired design, while Pohler opted for a striped background with a Christmas holly prominently featured to form Riverview’s winning duo. Richardson constructed a winter mitten-themed card using Christmas colors to be chosen as Crestview’s winner, while Castillo’s winter landscape card and Hethcote’s Christmas tree-carrying pickup truck design rounded out the winning quintet of designs for Lincoln and Salamonie, respectively.

Daugherty presented each of the winning students with their original artwork and 10 copies of the holiday cards featuring their respective designs during the final week of the semester to honor the students’ creativity and execution of producing the selected designs.
